In June, as Activision was preparing to release Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, a report filed with the SEC raised the possibility of a follow up release in 2009 featuring Metallica. In a website post yesterday, the band finally confirmed, what has been called “the worst-kept secret in rock ‘n roll,” that they will have their own video game.
Scheduled for release “in the first half” of 2009, the game will allow users to play as the band “in either single instrument or band career game modes.” Game designers have created the career mode version around Metallica’s own rise to fame, including famous venues in the band’s career such as the Tushino Airfield in Moscow where the band played the 1991 Monsters of Rock concert. In addition, the game will feature an “expert +” difficulty level, which will allow users to play like Lars Ulrich, using two bass drum kick pedals.
Though not naming them, the game will feature 28 Metallica songs. In addition, the game will feature tracks by the Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Slayer and Queen. Gaming community websites have confirmed that the following tracks will make the game.
