On Monday (April 24), Billboard officially announced that “Kill Bill” by SZA is the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
For three weeks prior, “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen had taken up the No. 1 spot while “Kill Bill” hung around the top 5. However, the recent release of the “Kill Bill” remix with Doja Cat on April 14 finally put the song over the top, after its original peak on the chart was No. 2.

As all versions of the song “roll up into one chart listing” for Billboard, “Kill Bill” is now SZA’s first No. 1 hit of her career. The song surely received a significant boost from the Doja remix, as her storytelling verse added brought another dimension of impressive artistry. When discussing the remix in a recent Instagram post, SZA showed immense gratitude to Doja.
“I jus wanted to say THANK YOU. To every single person rooting for me,” she wrote. “Thank you @dojacat for your talent and time! This music shit is weird and fickle, but y’all always come together for me at the end of the day. It’s why I try my hardest to give you my best. That won’t stop. I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!! STREAM KILL BILL REMIX (feat @dojacat cat) AND ORIGINAL.”
Before this week, SZA had multiple songs like “I Hate U,” “All The Stars,” “Good Days,” and “Nobody Gets Me” all crack the Top 10 of the Hot 100. But, “Kill Bill” finally pushing her to No. 1 is by far the greatest charting achievement of her career.
On April 10, “Kill Bill” first broke the record for longest weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, surpassing Mary J. Blige’s previous number,“Be Without You” in 2006. Spending 16 weeks atop that chart, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that all it took was a remix for “Kill Bill” to reach the same heights on the Hot 100.
