Goo goo g’joob.
On October 9, Apple Films will release a newly restored version of the long out-of-print 1967 feature film The Magical Mystery Tour on DVD and Blu-ray, with a remixed 5.1 surround soundtrack, Paul McCartney’s director’s commentary, and previously unseen footage.
There will also be a deluxe edition, containing both the DVD and Blu-ray, a 60-page book of photos and stories, and a reproduction of the mono double 7โ vinyl EP of the filmโs six new Beatles songs (โMagical Mystery Tour,โ โThe Fool On The Hill,โ โI Am The Walrus,โ โFlying,โ โBlue Jay Way,โ and โYour Mother Should Know.โ), originally issued in 1967.
For the first time ever, there will be a limited theatrical release in the UK, US, and other countries worldwide, starting September 27th.
The experimental film, which was met with mixed reviews upon its release but is now considered a psychedelic classic, captures a madcap British bus trip the band undertook with a film crew in September, 1967.
Says Ringo Starr: โPaul said, โLook, Iโve got this idea,โ and we said โGreat!โ and all he had was this circle and a little dot on the top โ thatโs where we started.”
“It wasnโt the kind of thing where you could say, โLadies and gentlemen, what you are about to see is the product of our imaginations and believe me, at this point they are quite vividโ,โ adds Paul McCartney.
