Joining forces during the early 1970s, Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton, and Rick Buckler turned their love for rock music into the band called The Jam. While the band only lasted a decade, in that time, The Jam released six studio albums. The last one released in 1982 with The Gift. Although no longer releasing music or touring, the bandโs hit songs โThe Eton Riflesโ and โGoing Undergroundโ continue to entertain. Sadly, the drummer for The Jam, Buckler, recently passed away at 69 years old.ย The news comes just two weeks after Buckler canceled a spoken-word tour due to health issues, per TMZ.
With Buckler just turning 69 back in December, the drummerโs death comes as somewhat of a surprise. While needing some time to process the news, Weller shared the news on Twitter, making sure to write a touching message about the former drummer. โIโm shocked and saddened by Rickโs passing. Iโm thinking back to us all rehearsing in my bedroom in Stanley Road, Woking. To all the pubs and clubs we played at as kids, to eventually making a record. What a journey.โ

Although decades passed since The Jam took the stage together, Weller explained how the stardom that followed the group remained a fond memory. โWe went far beyond our dreams and what we made stands the test of time. โฆ Rick was a good guy and a great drummer whose innovative drum patterns helped shape our songs. Iโm glad we had the chance to work together as much as we did. My thoughts are with [Rickโs wife Lesley] and his family at this very difficult time.โ

Rick Buckler Passed Away Peacefully
Fans filled the comment section with love for Buckler, writing, โYou guys were a big part of my childhood and the Jam and Style Council are still relevant. Celebrate the journey. So sad for your loss.โ One comment added, โSad news Paul, Rick was an important part of the jam one of the best uk groups.โ
Releasing their own statement, the family of Buckler considered the drummer to be a “love husband, father, and grandfather.” The family continued that the musician “passed away peacefully on Monday evening in Woking after a short illness with family by his side.”
While always remembered for his time with The Jam, Buckler didnโt stop taking the stage after the group disbanded. He went on to play in a tribute band for The Jam called The Gift. Leaving behind a legacy in rock music, Buckler’s contributions to the music industry remain timeless.
