While Trisha Yearwood spent the last four decades carving out her spot in country music, recently, she appeared to take a break from the spotlight. Her last album to hit shelves was back in 2019 with Every Girl. With the album released nearly six years ago, fans have constantly wondered what the singer was working on. Well, on Friday, July 18th, Yearwoodโs The Mirror will hit airwaves and streaming platforms. Excited about her new album, the country star offered a glimpse into the writing process and how she wasnโt even planning on a new album.ย
For most artists, they go into the writing process, hoping to create enough songs for an album. But for Yearwood, she saw the process as nothing more than group therapy. She said, โA songwriting session, if youโve never been in one yourself, itโs pretty cool. Itโs actually like free therapy for everybody involved.โ

With Yearwood having little direction on what she wanted to create, the singer simply enjoyed the conversation with the writers around her. โUsually thereโs two or three people at the table. It starts with a lot of coffee and conversation about whateverโs happening in your life. And then an idea will come upโฆ somebody will grab a guitar, and itโll just get started.โ
Trisha Yearwood Turned Negative Statement In Full Album
Letting the songs come naturally to her, Yearwood insisted that by the end of the day, they ended up with songs they hadn’t even prepared to write. โBy the end of three or four hours or so, usually, [youโre] left with a song that was not even in your heads when you started, and itโs been a pretty amazing process to be part of.โ
Again, not setting out to make an entire album, Yearwood revealed she only wanted to write to prove somebody wrong. โSomebody in college had told me I wasnโt a songwriter, and I just let it be the truth for 40 years, and then something just kind of clicked, and I just thought, โThat doesnโt have to be the truth, just because somebody said that about me.โ And that kind of informed a lot of these songs.โ
With Yearwood using that statement to help inspire her to write, record, and produce, donโt miss the release of The Mirror on July 18th.
