“When I came in here and heard y’all getting it together and stuff…[I thought] these guys are pretty good! Tight band, tight sound.”

That’s Bob Weir, gushing over the live studio session that Slightly Stoopid recently recorded in San Rafael, CA. Weir made a guest appearance at that session, the results of which were released earlier this summer as a triple-disc DVD/CD package called Slightly Stoopid & Friends: Live at Roberto’s TRI Studios.

Taken from the DVD, this live performance of “Everything You Need” sums up everything about the band’s time at TRI Studios, mixing reggae, acoustic hip-hop, and California surfer-pop into a heady five minutes.

“‘Everything You Need’ is a song about how when you try to do something and it never really works,” explains singer Kyle McDonald, “but when you’re not trying and are just having a good time, good things come from it. The main message from the song’s lyrics says it best: ‘Because the harder you try, the less you succeed / Don’t try at all and get everything you need.’”
