Bonnie and Clyde were the ultimate ride or die couple. Since the day they were gunned down in the piney woods of Louisiana the duoย has inspired all manner of songs, from a Merleย Haggard ballad to a rap duet courtesy Jay-Z and Beyonce.
Nashville rock and roll outfit Andrew Leahey & The Homestead has now addedย to theย long list ofย songs about the beloved killers with its song “Penitentiary Guys.”ย
The track,ย performed live at the Family Wash in East Nashville, is an adrenaline-charged rocker that calls to mind classic Jayhawks and ’90s pop-rockers Gin Blossoms at their melodic best.ย Check out the performanceย below.
You’ll likelyย recognize Leahey’s name from the masthead of American Songwriter, as he is a frequent scribe forย the magazine,ย having penned the forthcoming cover story on Sturgill Simpson, which hits newsstands on May 10. Don’t miss it.
