Brad Paisley Recently Paid Tribute to Mentor Charley Pride at American Music Awards
When he’s not putting out new music or performing the national anthem, Brad Paisley has been performing at award shows. He recently made an appearance at the 50th Anniversary American Music Awards, one of a handful of artists representing country music. While there, he paid tribute to the legendary Charley Pride, who actually helped Paisley get his start.
50 years after Pride won his first American Music Awards at the inaugural ceremony, Paisley took to the stage to pay homage to the late performer. โ50 years ago, Charley Pride won two awards at the very first American Music Awards and thatโs a big deal, yโall. It was really, really cool,โ Paisley began. He then shared the story of Pride’s involvement in his own career.
“Many years later, when I was 15, Charley saw me play and he gave me his home phone number,โ Paisley continued. โAnd he said to my dad, โHey, I wanna help your son.โ And help me he did. He was such a great guy and we miss him so much. Tonight, Iโd love to sing a little bit of this classic by a man called Pride.โ
Paisley performed a snippet of “Kiss an Angel Good Morning” in honor of Pride, saying, simply, “We miss you, Charley.” He then performed his new single, “Truck Still Works.”
