Days after Foo Fighters served as the musical guests on Saturday Night Live for a ninth time, Dave Grohl joined Boygenius for the band’s Halloween concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles California. His face painted as a corpse, Grohl sat behind the drums with Boygenius for “Satanist,” from the trio’s 2023 album The Record.
Perhaps Grohl was playing the devil to Boygenius’ costumes of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but outside his surprise cameo, the trio also slipped some of their own solo songs into the set, and let their bandmates sing them.

Phoebe Bridgers sang Lucy Dacus’ “Night Shift,” while Julien Baker took on Bridgers’ “Motion Sickness,” and Lucy Dacus sang Baker’s “Good News.” Sloppy Jane also joined the band with Bridgers for a rendition of her song “Claw Machine.”
Grohl’s surprise appearance comes days after he and Foo Fighters’s SNL appearance on Saturday (October 28) with host comedian Nate Bargatze. The band performed But Here We Are tracks “Rescued” and “The Glass,” with special guest H.E.R.
Grohl also guest starred in two SNL sketches, including one dressed as a doctor on a plane with a pregnant woman and another as an angry uncle in a fake country music video for “Lake Beach” with Bargatze and cast members Andrew Dismukes, and James Austin Johnson.

Foo Fighters’ musical spot on Saturday Night Live marked their first appearance on the show since the release of their 11th album But Here We Are in 2023, and following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
Coincidentally, Boygenius is set to make its SNL debut on November 11 with host Timothée Chalamet.
Boygenius kicked off their tour in support of The Record in June, and released a four-song companion EP the album, The Rest, on October 13, featuring the tracks “Black Hole,” “Afraid of Heights,” “Voyager,” and “Powers.”
