โ€œI usually have a lot to say about things, but Iโ€™m pretty speechless right now,โ€ Hayes Carll says from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

Carll, a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, recently made his Opry debut which is captured in the 5-minute video below. The short documentary follows the artist as he walks the Opry halls, admires plaques on the wall and makes his way onto the hallowed stage. โ€œI grew up with every kind of country music, and I liked it all,โ€ Hayes says. โ€œBut those people that lit that fire for me, that spark of imagination and creativity โ€ฆ those people set me on this path.โ€

Hayes continues: โ€œKris Kristofferson got me here, Willie Nelson got me here, Bob Dylan got me here — they just spoke to me in a way that was even more profound. I couldโ€™ve been a fan of 1,000 different people, but those guys made me want to change my life.โ€

Carll sings โ€œJesus and Elvisโ€ in the video, joined by co-writer and partner Allison Moorer. โ€œAllison โ€ฆ has played [at the Opry] several times. She was telling me, โ€˜When you get out there, itโ€™s gonna hit you.โ€™ She was right,โ€ Carll says. โ€œIt means everything to be able to look over and see her there. It helps in a lot of ways โ€ฆ To be able to walk out on that stage and do that thing — itโ€™s a special feeling.โ€

Check out the video below. Carll’s most recent album, What It Is, was recently released on Dualtone Records. Read our review here.
