Where Are They Now? 3 Rock One-Hit Wonders That Dominated the 2000s

Have you been listening to some one-hit wonders from the 2000s and are wondering โ€œWhere are they now?โ€ We can help you out! Letโ€™s look at three huge one-hit wonders of rock music in the 2000s and discover what theyโ€™ve been up to since their heyday.

1. Wheatus

โ€œTeenage Dirtbagโ€ by pop rock outfit Wheatus was released in 2000 and became a smash hit almost immediately. Itโ€™s the kind of song that has lasting appeal to young listeners and has since gone viral on TikTok a few times in 2024. But what happened to Wheatus? You donโ€™t hear much about them anymore.

Wheatus is still very much together, but they never produced another record that rivaled the success of their debut. They were quite successful in the UK but didnโ€™t chart all that well in the US. Theyโ€™ve gone through an insanely long list of lineup changes through the years, but lead singer Brendan B Brown is still in the mix. Their last release was the 2023 EP Just A Dirtbag Christmas and they havenโ€™t released a full-length since 2013.

2. Nine Days

โ€œAbsolutely (Story Of A Girl)โ€ came out in 2000 and was more or less inescapable for a few years. It was used in films and TV shows, and it was a big part of your typical teen power pop playlist in the 2000s. When it comes to these one-hit wonders from the 2000s, where are they now? Are they still together?

Nine Days is still together as of 2024. However, the album โ€œAbsolutely (Story Of A Girl)โ€ was on, The Madding Crowd, was their only album to chart in the US and reach certified gold status. They released a few albums since then, the last of which being the 2016 record Snapshots. They donโ€™t tour as much anymore, and lead singer John Hampson works full-time as an English teacher in New York. However, he did record a new version of Nine Daysโ€™ one-hit wonder for the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All At Once.

3. American Hi-Fi

โ€œFlavor Of The Weakโ€ was released by pop-punk outfit American Hi-Fi in 2000 and crashed the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, peaking at no. 41. It was their first single from their debut album; some bands just gain their fame from the get-go.

Unfortunately, American Hi-Fi never charted that high again. Theyโ€™re still together as of 2024 with the same exact lineup, but the band hasnโ€™t released a proper studio album since American Hi-Fi Acoustic in 2016. They did come out with an EP in 2020, but it doesnโ€™t look like they tour as much nowadays.
