Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) announced Tell ‘Em I’m Gone, his first album in five years. The October 27 Legacy Recordings release features ten tracks, half originals and half covers. He co-produced the album with Rick Rubin, and invited a host of guest artists, including Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and Charlie Musselwhite.
In the announcement, Yusuf indicated that the album’s music would draw heavily from his R&B influences, a departure from his most recent album, 2010’s folky Roadsinger. “Hidden in the background behind my renowned troubadour persona lurked an R&B alter-self waiting to be let free,” heย said in a press release.
Yusuf premiered the first cover, his take on Edgar Winter’s “Dying to Live,” at Rolling Stone yesterday.
