Weโve tragically lost so many musicians in their prime through the years. Others lived full lives, but left a hole in the music industry when they eventually passed on. And a few musicians have also, somehow, predicted their own deaths. Letโs look at a few haunting examples.
1. Bob Marley
Bob Marley was a prophet in his own right. He was an activist, spiritualist, and overall socially conscious human being. But that โprophetโ label could also be taken literally, considering he might just be one of few musicians who predicted their own deaths.

Allegedly, Marley used to predict future events as a child with concerning accuracy. Rumor has it that when he was a young man of 24, he told a group of his friends that he knew he was โgoing to die at 36.โ Sure enough, Marley died at 36 years old from complications of melanoma and his refusal of treatment due to religious reasons. However, itโs not entirely clear when or where Marley made this prediction; it very well could just be an age-old rumor.
2. Jeff Buckley
Jeff Buckley was set up to be the new big thing in folk rock. Unfortunately, he tragically passed away from accidental drowning at only 30 years old. Today, there are two songs that Buckley (and his father) had written that many fans believe predict his untimely demise.
In the song โDream Brotherโ, Buckley repeats one line several times: โAsleep in the sand with the ocean washing over.โ The dark angel of death is referenced throughout the song as the narrator drowns.
Just as well, Buckleyโs famous musician father Tim Buckley also wrote a song many years before his son died titled โSong Of The Sirenโ. The lyrics โSwim to me, swim to me / Let me enfold you / Here I am, here I am / Waiting to hold youโ have led some fans to believe he predicted his sonโs death.
3. Jimi Hendrix
Years before the famed guitarist released Are You Experienced, Jimi Hendrix once recorded a track titled โThe Ballad Of Jimiโ. The song follows a man named Jimi who will die in five years. Hendrix had told his contemporaries that he wrote the song about his best friend. However, the lyrics would end up predicting his own death five years later. โMany things he would try / For he knew soon heโd die / Now Jimiโs gone, heโs not alone / His memory still lives on / Five years, this he said / Heโs not gone, heโs just dead.โ Haunting, to say the least.
4. Amy Winehouse
Powerhouse singer Amy Winehouse died far too young. Like many famous musicians who die young, her death was a cumulative result of drug abuse and an eating disorder. And she didnโt predict her death through song lyrics. According to her close friend Alex Foden, Winehouse said pretty clearly that she was sure she was going to die young.
โAmy always told me she thought she would die young and that she knew sheโd become a part of the 27 Club,โ said Foden.
Winehouse died at the age of 27 in 2011.
